Market studies and economic research

Market studies

Market studies consist of an in-depth analysis of a sector or economic activity, or a reflection on broader competition issues that, therefore, commonly affect several sectors.

Using a perspective of promoting competition and good regulation, we prepare our studies following a systematic methodology to address the legal and economic characterization, the behavior and incentives of operators, and the economic conditions of the analyzed sectors.

The purpose of market studies is to issue recommendations (non-binding) to Public Administrations or other agents with the aim of improving competition to protect welfare and the general interest.

The CNMC has the legal mandate for the “conduct of studies and research work on competition matters, as well as general reports on sectors, where appropriate, with proposals for liberalization, deregulation, or regulatory modification.”

Economic research on competition and regulation

We conduct economic research on competition and regulation. Our goal is to promote debate so that the functioning of markets improves for the benefit of citizens. These types of documents do not necessarily reflect the official view of the CNMC (as they are not formally approved by its Board).

You can consult our working documents in the CNMC Digital Library on the CNMC Library and Documentation Center site.
