The CNMC's Action Plan highlights the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a priority in our daily operations.
These goals are part of an initiative driven by the United Nations (UN), and public administrations must commit to them.
A total of 17 SDGs have been defined, among which the following stand out in terms of environmental management:
- SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation
- SDG 7: Affordable and clean energy
- SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities
- SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production
- SDG 13: Climate action
To monitor the SDGs, the CNMC has implemented a change in its management model: we prioritize sustainability principles to reduce CO2 emissions, decarbonize our buildings, and contribute to the ecological reconstruction of cities.
Decisions taken
The CNMC proposed to implement an environmental management system including the organisational structure, activity planning, responsibilities, processes and resources necessary to develop, implement and review environmental protection agreements.
This commitment was reflected in the CNMC Environmental Policy, approved on September 17, 2021.

Steps taken
The CNMC implemented the environmental management system more than two years ago. Since then, several measures have been taken to reduce energy consumption and raise awareness among employees about the need to protect the environment. Among others:
- The teleworking modality has been implemented.
- Offices have been closed on Fridays during periods of extreme cold/heat.
- The operating hours of air conditioning/heating have been reduced.
- The electricity supply contract is 100% green.
- Since October 2021, there are numerous selective collection points in our offices, replacing individual wastebaskets at workstations.
- Since January 2023, the Madrid headquarters has a manager responsible for all generated waste. The Barcelona headquarters has had its own manager since August of the same year.
Achievements accomplished
SGS International Certification Services Iberica, S.A.U., an entity accredited by ENAC, certified in December 2023 that the environmental management system of the CNMC meets the requirements of the ISO 14001 Standard.
