Market Studies

Market studies consist in an in-depth analysis of a given sector or activity or of wider horizontal competition issues common to different sectors. From the standpoint of competition and good regulation, we use a formal methodology to produce our market studies and to feature the regulatory and economic framework, the behaviour and incentives of undertakings and other stakeholders and the underlying economic factors.

The aim of market studies is to raise (non-binding) recommendations to public administrations or other stakeholders, in order to promote competition and thus safeguard general welfare and public interest. The CNMC is legally empowered to carry out market studies and research-based products and general reports on specific sectors, including proposals for liberalisation, deregulation, or regulatory changes (see article 5.1.h of Law3/2013, of 4 June, creating the CNMC).
