What is the Unique Access Identifier (UAI) and why is it important?

The Unique Access Identifier (UAI) is a 12-digit number used to uniquely identify a fiber optic connection in the Telefónica network. It is also used by operators that utilize its network (with NEBA).

If you have ever changed your gas or electricity provider, you might be familiar with the term CUPS (Universal Code of the Supply Point), which appears on your bill and is used to identify your supply. Well, in the case of Telefónica's fiber connections, the UAI serves a similar function: it identifies your fiber optic line.

Previously, when internet connections were through ADSL (copper), the fixed phone number was sufficient to identify the line. But with the arrival of fiber optics, it became necessary to create a new and more specific system to identify each connection.

It is advisable to have this number handy, as when you change your internet provider (and the new provider uses fiber), the new provider might ask you for this number. If you provide it, possible identification errors or delays can be avoided.
