ECN / International
We cooperate with the European Commission and other authorities on competition from the European Union's member states, in order to apply EU legislation on competition (art. 101 and 102 of the TFUE). Among other commitments, this involves attending the various Committee meetings, work groups, and expert meetings called in accordance with the provisions found in Council Regulation (EC) No 139/2004 of 20 January 2004 on the control of concentrations between undertakings, and Council Regulation (EC) No. 1/2003 of 16 December 2002 on the implementation of the rules on competition laid down in Articles 101 and 102 of the Treaty.
The European Commission and the national authorities on competition from all of the EU member states, including the CNMC, concurrently apply the regulations on competition from the EU, cooperating with each other through the European Competition Network (ECN).
The ECN represents an effective mechanism to combat violations related to competition that affect the EU market, and it promotes standardised application of the EC legislation on the subject of defence of competition. The ECN also promotes convergence in the application of the national regulations of the Member States.
Other authorities on competition from the ECN
The International Competition Network is made up of most of the countries worldwide that have authorities on competition.
Its mission is to promote adequate standards and procedures to encourage defence of competition, as well as to promote international cooperation.
The network is organised into work groups, and the CNMC is a member of these.
In 2016, the CNMC organised the ICN Cartel Workshop, where 57 agencies on competition, individual professionals, and international organisations met to discuss and compare their best practices in the fight against cartels.
